TEAM NOTES
- Texas leads the all-time series with Texas Tech, 46-15, have won 11 of the last 13 matchups and are 29-5 against the Red Raiders in Austin.
- UT is 41-8 (.837) at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium/Jamail Field against Big 12 opponents. Overall UT is 72-12 (.857) under Mack Brown in home games.
- Mack Brown has an 85-24 all-time record in Big 12 games. The 85 wins are the second most since 1998 for any Big 12 school. Texas has a 54-15 record in its last 69 Big 12 games.
- The 52 points gave Texas three games this season with 40 or more points in a game.
- The 52 points marks Texas' first 50-point game since scoring 51 against Florida Atlantic (51-17) on Nov. 21, 2010 and the most points since scoring 64 against UTEP (64-7) on Sep. 26, 2009.
- Texas' 595 yards of total offense is tied for the 22nd-best effort in school history and marks the second consecutive game with 590 or more. The 1,185 yards of total offense is the most in back-to-back games since the Horns rolled up 1,262 total yards in consecutive games against Baylor (645) and Kansas (617) in 2005.
- Texas scored 31 points in the first half, marking the second time this season they have scored 30 or more points before halftime. The Longhorns also had 34 points in the first half against Iowa State.
- The Longhorns recorded over 500 yards of total offense for the second straight game and third time this season. It is the 71st 500-yard game in school history.
- UT outgained Texas Tech 439-30 in rushing yards for the game. Texas is averaging 370.3 rushing yards over the last three games. Texas has rushed for over 200 yards in five of the eight games this season with over 400 in each of the last two contests.
- This marked the first time since 1977 that Texas has posted 400 or more rushing yards in back-to-back games. The Longhorns had 442 against Virginia and 516 against Rice in that 1977 season.
- The Longhorns have not allowed a touchdown on the opening possession this season. Texas Tech penalties took away a touchdown pass and backed the Red Raiders up from the two-yard line to the 22-yard line. A Texas pass interference call in the end zone kept the drive alive for Texas Tech but the Longhorns held the Red Raiders to a 29-yard field goal. Overall the drive took wound up covering 7:04 on the clock with 16 plays for 71 yards. There were five total penalties on the drive with three for Texas Tech and two for Texas. It is the third time in eight games a Texas opponent made a field goal on its first offensive possession.
- UT scored on its first five possessions of the first half with the streak ending only when they ran out the clock to end the half. Texas started with a field goal on the opening drive and then scored touchdowns on four straight possessions. The Longhorns continued the success into the second half, driving down field for touchdowns on each of the first three drives before running out the clock at the end of the game. Overall Texas scored on seven of the nine overall drives with the other two being when they chose to run out the clock in each half.
- The Texas Tech touchdown in the third quarter was the first touchdown allowed by the Texas defense since the third quarter of the Oklahoma State game. UT had held its opponents out of the end zone for eight consecutive quarters during that span.
- The Longhorns ran for 237 yards in the first half compared to Texas Tech rushing for negative eight yards. It is the second straight game the Longhorns have had at least 200 rushing yards at halftime as they recorded 207 against Kansas last week. Kansas also managed just six rushing yards a week ago so Texas has given up negative two rushing yards in the first half over the last two games.
- Texas tallied six rushing touchdowns in the game. The last time the Longhorns scored six rushing touchdowns in a game was in 2007 against Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl.
- UT ran for four rushing touchdowns in the first half. The last time Texas had four rushing touchdowns in one half was in 2008 in the second half against Texas A&M. The last time it happened in the first half was against Baylor in 2005.
- Texas ran the "Wild Fozzy" formation, a direct snap to RB Fozzy Whittaker, a total of seven times, scoring three touchdowns. Whittaker kept it five times for 41 yards and two touchdowns, handed off to D.J. Monroe for a 12-yard rushing touchdown and threw an incomplete pass.
