No. 5 Baseball drops a 3-1 decision at Oklahoma State

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 5 Texas Longhorns were unable to get on the scoreboard until the ninth inning and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Cowboys drew first blood in the bottom of the second. Jared Womack started the frame with a double that dropped between Tim Maitland in leftfield and Cohl Walla in centerfield. Davis Duren drove in Womack when he pushed a single up the middle past the glove of a diving Jordan Etier at second base.
Oklahoma State (17-6, 2-3 Big 12) tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Luis Uribe reached on a leadoff walk and Devin Shines drew a walk to put a pair on. Hunter Bailey laid down a bunt to sacrifice both runners into scoring position, but the throw to first base from catcher Jacob Felts was errant, allowing Uribe to score and Shines to move to third. The Cowboys inflated the cushion to 3-0 when Gabe Weidenaar dropped down a squeeze bunt to score Shines.
Texas (17-6, 4-1) finally broke the scoring seal in the ninth inning. With two outs, Erich Weiss singled to rightfield, stole second base and scored when Lucas Kephart dropped a single into the gap in left centerfield. Jordan Etier put a charge into a first-pitch offering, but it was tracked down by Shines near the warning track in leftfield to end the game.
Hoby Milner (2-1) was the hard-luck loser for the Horns. He pitched 6.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out two. Milner's ERA for the season dropped from 2.49 to 2.30.
Brad Propst (4-1) earned a complete-game victory for the Cowboys. He yielded one run on six hits while striking out six over 9.0 innings.
Weiss and Kephart led the Longhorns'offense out of the No. 4 and 5 spots in the batting order. Combining to go 5-for-7 with one double, one run, one stolen base and one RBI. Weiss went 3-for-4 with one double, one run and one stolen base. Kephart went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one sacrifice bunt.
Womack went 2-for-4 with one run, one double and one triple for the Cowboys. Davis went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Longhorns and Cowboys meet in the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
