Frittelli leads No. 5 Men's Golf in season-opening round at Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Texas Men's Golf senior Dylan Frittelli was one of just 11 players to finish the first day of the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational under par and is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard at 1-under 69. As a team, the No. 5 Longhorns are tied for seventh place at 9-over 289.
Frittelli corrected three-straight bogeys on Nos. 11, 12 and 13 of Olympia Fields CC with a pair of birdies on 15 and 17 - his sixth and eighth holes of the day. A bogey on the par-4 18th hole pushed him to +2 at the turn. On the front nine, Frittelli birdied four of the five par-4s to drop to 2-under through 16 holes, but a final bogey on No. 9 resulted in the 1-under scorecard.
Frittelli trails first-round leader Andrew Yun (66) by three strokes and current runner-up Bobby Wyatt by two. Two players are tied for third place at 2-under 68.
Gribble was 1-under through 10 holes but played his last five holes at +3 and finished the day at 2-over 72 and tied for 25th place.
Senior Alex Moon, junior Julio Vegas and freshman Kramer Hickok are tied for 43rd at 4-over 74.
Stanford leads the 15-team field at 3-under 277. Oklahoma State is five strokes back at 282 while Auburn, Alabama and Ohio State are tied for third place at 285 (+3).
Texas begins Saturday's second round at 8 a.m. Central on the first tee alongside Florida State and Illinois.
