Spieth's tee times set for Northern Trust Open

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Texas Men's Golf freshman Jordan Spieth will be teeing off this week at the PGA Tour's Northern Trust Open (Feb. 16-19) at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. This will be his fourth PGA tournament, previously played in the 2011 FedEx St. Jude Classic and 2011 and 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championships.
Spieth's playing group for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday include professionals Ryo Ishikawa and Danny Lee. The trio will tee off of the 10th hole at 10:40 a.m. Central Thursday and off of the first hole at 3:25 p.m. Central Friday.
Spieth was a contender for first place when entering the final round tied for eighth at the 2011 HP Bryon Nelson Championship. After a 7-over-par final round, he finished tied for 32nd place. At the same event in 2010, Spieth finished tied for 16th.
Spieth will be joined in the 144-player field by former Longhorns Harrison Frazar, Justin Leonard and Jhonattan Vegas plus fellow collegian UCLA sophomore Patrick Cantlay.
Both Spieth and Cantlay have the opportunity of using this tournament as a preview for the NCAA Championships that will also be held at the Riviera Country Club at the end of May.
Past champions of the Northern Trust Open event include defending champion Aaron Baddeley (2011), Steve Stricker (2010) and Phil Mickelson (2008, 2009).
