Gribble leads No. 4 Men's Golf with second-round 68 at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Texas Men's Golf senior All-American Cody Gribble matched his season-best 68 Saturday afternoon to lead a trio of Longhorns among the top 10 at the Schenkel Invitational. Gribble (73-68=141) and freshman Brandon Stone (68-73) are both 3-under-par through 36 holes and tied for third place in the talent-laden field, and junior Toni Hakula (71-72=142) is tied for 10th.
As a team, No. 4 Texas (280-285=565) trails Alabama (282-281=563) by just two strokes entering Sunday's final round at Forest Heights Country Club.
Gribble began his round with four consecutive pars before sinking his first of five birdies on the fifth hole. He closed the front nine with a birdie-bogey-birdie finish to make the turn at -2, and he dropped another stroke with his fourth birdie at No. 12. A final birdie on the 16th hole put Gribble in the clubhouse at 4-under on the day, and -3 overall to climb 18 places on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Kramer Hickok (68-77=145, +1) and senior Julio Vegas (78-72=150, +8) round out the Texas contingent in ties for 18th and 42nd places, respectively.
