FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs scored six times in the eighth inning Friday to earn the 9-3 win over the Texas Longhorns in Big 12 action at Lupton Stadium. Freshman shortstop C.J Hinojosa went 3-for-3 for the Longhorns, recording two doubles in a game for the first time this season while junior right fielder Mark Payton was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Brandon Finnegan got the no-decision for TCU (28-25, 12-11) after striking out 12 in six innings of work, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk. Dillon Peters lasted 6 1/3 innings for Texas, giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Brooks Marlow's RBI single off Finnegan gave Texas the 1-0 lead in the second. After Hinojosa doubled in the fifth, Payton's single made it a 2-0 advantage.
TCU would tie it in the fifth after Jerrick Suiter hit a fly ball to center as Texas center fielder Taylor Stell lost the ball in the lights to score Keaton Jones. Boomer White then singled to bring home Suiter for the 2-2 score. Paul Hendrix doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and moved to third on a passed ball. Kevin Cron then hit a sacrifice fly as Hendrix scored the go-ahead run.
Stell was hit by a pitch in the Texas half of the seventh and would go to third on a failed pickoff attempt by Alex Young. Payton singled to center with a two-strike count for the tying run.
Jones would draw a bases-loaded walk against Corey Knebel to start the six-run eighth for the Horned Frogs with White's two-run single completing the scoring.
