UT Tower to be bathed in burnt orange lighting on Tuesday, April 29 in honor of the Longhorns’ Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship.
AUSTIN, Texas -- The UT Tower will be drenched in burnt orange lighting Tuesday evening, April 29 in recognition of The University of Texas Men's Golf team's victory at the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas.
Per UT tradition, the campus landmark is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top to bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship.
The No. 18 Texas Men's Golf team fought off a one-stroke deficit after 54 holes to claim the 2014 Big 12 Conference Championship crown on Sunday afternoon at Whispering Pines Golf Club. Fueled by even-par performances in the final round by junior Brax McCarthy and freshman Gavin Hall, the Longhorns (287-285-295-291=1158, +6) fired a 3-over-par 291 to top the second-place Texas Tech Red Raiders (286-291-289-295=1161) by three strokes.
Men's Golf becomes the sixth University of Texas program to capture a Big 12 Conference championship during the 2013-14 athletics season, joining Volleyball, Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving, Women's Indoor Track and Field and Men's Tennis.
