Former Longhorn becomes the youngest player to win the Masters since Tiger Woods.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Former Longhorn Jordan Spieth made history on Sunday after making 28 birdies and finishing 18-under par to win the 2015 Masters.
The Texas Ex (2008-09) became the youngest player to win the Masters since 21-year old Tiger Woods in 1997.
He also became the fifth man to lead the tournament from start to finish, going into the final round with a four-shot lead.
Spieth shot 18-under, becoming the first wire-to-wire winner at the Masters since Raymond Floyd in 1976. In 1941, Craig Woods was the only other Masters champion who led by at least three shots from the opening round to the trophy presentation.
For Spieth, it was his third win on the PGA Tour and fifth time worldwide. He will rise to No. 2 in the world.
Spieth defeated Phil Mickelson and Dustin Rose by four strokes.
In 2014, Spieth tied for second after squandering the lead before the nine-hole turn on the last day.
At Texas, Spieth won three events and helped lead the Longhorns to the 2012 National Championship.
Texas Men's Golf Head Coach John Fields
"Winning the Western Intercollegiate and having Scottie (Scheffler) win the medal on a day when Jordan Spieth wins the Masters is a very special day for Texas."
Former Texas Men's Golf Assistant Coach Ryan Murphy
"What a week and day for Jordan! He's a very special young man and I just feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach and be around him during his time at Texas. His winning the Masters does not surprise me. He's as strong mentally as any young person that I have been around. It is a great day for the Spieth family as well as the Longhorn family."
