The senior struck out a career-high 12 batters en route to eight shutout innings.
IRVING, Texas—Texas starting pitcher Ty Culbreth has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Stanford this weekend, the league announced today.
The lefthander was dominant in eight innings against the Cardinal as he carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning. With one out in the frame, Stanford got its first hit on an infield single to short. Culbreth allowed just one other hit in the game—also an infield single—and did not walk a batter.
The win was Culbreth's second of the season and the lefthander notched a career-high 12 strikeouts, doubling his previous career best. His 16 strikeouts through two starts are most in the Big 12.
The weekly accolade is the first of Culbreth's career and the first for any Longhorn this season.
Texas Baseball returns to action tomorrow as it travels to Texas State for a 6 p.m. non-conference matchup against the Bobcats.
