03.22.2016 | Men's Golf
Three Longhorns finished in the top 10 to give Texas its fourth win of the season.
PALM CITY, Fla. – No. 4 Men's Golf won its fourth tournament in the last five events after firing a third-round 285 at the Valspar Collegiate on Tuesday at the Floridian National Golf Course.
The Horns won in a field with 10 teams ranked in the GolfWeek Top-25, including the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 teams.
Three Longhorns finished in the top-10, led by sophomore Doug Ghim, who shot a third-round 68 to tie for third, a season-low finish and tying his career-low finish (also tied for third at the Gifford Collegiate in 2014).
Ghim made four birdies on the last day to climb 10 spots for the seventh top-10 finish of his Texas career and fourth in the 2015-16 season. He finished one stroke out of first place.
Juniors Beau Hossler and Gavin Hall also finished in the top 10 in a tie for eighth. Hossler matched Ghim's round with a 68, also with four birdies on the day for his 10th-consecutive top-20 finish, while Hall posted his fourth top-10 finish of the season.
Sophomore Scottie Scheffler carded a third-round 72 to tie for 25th, while sophomore Taylor Funk tied for 36th.
Texas finished five strokes ahead of runner-up LSU, while LSU's Zach Wright won medalist honors at 2-under par.
The Longhorns will continue their season with the Augusta Collegiate Invitational on April 2 and 3 at Forrest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
POST-TOURNAMENT COMMENTS
Head Coach John Fields
On the win: I'm happy with the way the guys played this week. It was fun to come and play at the Floridian, a great golf course with a fantastic field this week. We got off to a solid start. Gavin Hall's two rounds really helped us get the win. Beau and Doug coming back with 68s on the third day was outstanding. It was good to get a win in such a difficult field and great to see Doug finish in the top five as well.
