The Longhorns came within one win of the championship game but fell short in Saturday's game two.
OKLAHOMA CITY—After walking off in game one vs. TCU, Texas Baseball's run at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship came to an end on Saturday with an 8-2 loss to the No. 15 Horned Frogs in game two at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
For the fourth time in five Big 12 Baseball Championship contests, the Longhorns (25-32) scored up the first run of the ballgame. Sophomore Jake McKenzie opened the top of the third with an infield single, advancing to third on a sacrifice and a wild pitch. With two down, Patrick Mathis singled to left-center to plate McKenzie and put the Longhorns out to an early 1-0 lead.
TCU answered in their half of the frame, however. After Ty Culbreth, who started the game on just two days rest, allowed a pair of singles to put runners on the corners, freshman Beau Ridgeway entered. Ridgeway allowed a single to right-center to tie up the ballgame, but that would be it for the Horned Frogs.
Texas wasted little time recouping its lead. Kacy Clemens opened the top of the fourth with a walk and moved to third on a Travis Jones single. With one out in the inning, Bret Boswell lifted a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Clemens to score the go-ahead run.
The fifth inning proved tough for the Longhorns, as Big 12 Freshman of the Year Luken Baker hit his third homer of the tournament out to left with two aboard to put the Horned Frogs out in front 4-2.
TCU strung together three runs in the sixth inning as well to go out to a commanding 7-2 lead before tacking on a late run in the eighth.
Texas put a pair of runners on in the ninth, but the offense was unable to overcome the six-run deficit.
