Scheffler leads No. 20 Men’s Golf after round one at Nike Collegiate

Senior Scottie Scheffler shot a first-round 69 to lead the Longhorns.

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Senior Scottie Scheffler fired a 69 to lead No. 20 Texas Men's Golf to a tie for 11^th after the first round at the Nike Collegiate Invitational.

Scheffler started his round with a par before making an eagle on hole two's par-5. He made another par, then made back-to-back bogeys before concluding the back nine with four-straight pars to make the turn at even par.

On the back nine, Scheffler made three pars before making back-to-back birdies on four and five to sit at 2-under. He made two pars and another birdie before closing the round with a bogey for a 2-under 69 to tie for 18^th.

Senior Doug Ghim and sophomore Spencer Soosman closed their rounds with 1-over par 72s, Ghim making five birdies and Soosman four to tie for 36^th.

Freshman Kristoffer Reitan finished with a 2-over 73, while junior Steven Chervony shot a 4-over 75.

In a tournament with seven teams in the GCAA top-25, Texas closed the first round with a 286 in a tie for 11^th at 2-over par, 14 strokes behind leader Oklahoma. OU's Blaine Hale leads all players at 7-under par.

The Longhorns will tee off at 10:50 a.m. CT with Florida and USC. For live scoring
