Senior Doug Ghim followed a first-round 66 with a second-round 67 to sit in second place after two rounds.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Senior Doug Ghim fired a 5-under 67 in the second round on Saturday to lead Texas Men's Golf to a tie for second place at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
Ghim followed a first-round 66 with a 67 to it at 11-under par, one stroke behind the leader.
Starting on the back nine, Ghim made four birdies and five pars before making the turn to pick up two more birdies and a bogey. His 13 birdies in two rounds are the second-most of any player in the tournament.
Senior Scottie Scheffler and sophomores Nick Costello and Spencer Soosman all finished under par for the second round to tie for 32nd. Scheffler shot a 2-under 70 with four birdies, as Costello and Soosman carded 1-under 71s, with Soosman making an eagle and two birdies and Costello matching the two-birdie tally.
Freshman Kristoffer Reitan kicked off the second round with a perfect back nine before picking up three birdies and two bogeys to end the day at 1-over 73 to tie for 43rd.
The Longhorns finished the day with a team score of 9-under 279, tied for second with Duke, and sit five strokes behind leader Wake Forest going into Sunday's final round. Duke's Alex Smalley sits at the top of the leaderboard at 12-under par.
Texas returns to the course tomorrow for the third and final round at 9:50 a.m. CT with Wake Forest and Duke.
