Baseball completes sweep with 10-5 win over UCLA

The Longhorns pounded out 14 hits in the game, including three from both Kacy Clemens and Michael McCann.
AUSTIN, Texas—An outpouring of offense sent Texas Baseball (12-6) to a 10-5 win over UCLA (6-9) on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, giving the Longhorns the three-game series sweep.
Once again, the Longhorns got the offense going in the first frame. Tate Shaw ignited the offense with a double to right field but was picked off during the next at-bat. David Hamilton followed with a one-out walk before Kacy Clemens singled to put runners on the corners. With two on, Austin Todd singled up the middle to plate Hamilton and one batter later, Bret Boswell stroked a double to left-center to make it 2-0 Longhorns.
UCLA responded in the second with two of its own off of freshman Blair Henley (2-1) to knot the game at 2-2.
Texas answered back to regain the lead at 3-2 in the home half of the frame. Catcher Michael McCann singled and stole second before Patrick Mathis singled to give the Longhorns runners on first and third. Tate Shaw then reached on a fielding error to load the bases for David Hamilton, who lifted a sac fly to put Texas on top.
The teams exchanged another pair of runs in the fourth inning and the Longhorns took a 5-4 lead into the sixth.
It was in that inning, however, that Texas broke it open. Hamilton opened the inning with a double before scoring on a Clemens single. Clemens, who went 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in the ballgame, came around to score when McCann stroked a bases-loaded single to right-center to make it 7-4 in favor of the Longhorns.
With Travis Jones on third and McCann on first, the UCLA pitcher balked to make it 9-4 and put the Longhorns out to a commanding lead.
The Bruins got a run on sac fly of their own in the seventh before Jake McKenzie entered in relief and limited the damage. McKenzie (1) pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn his first career save.
The Longhorns tacked on one more in the eighth thanks to an RBI single from Jones and Texas went on to complete the sweet.
Texas now hosts visiting Texas A&M on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
