No. 6 Men’s Golf finishes eighth at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite

Senior Scottie Scheffler worked his way into the top-23 with a third-round 69.
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – No. 6 Texas Men's Golf climbed three spots with a 286 on Sunday to conclude the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational in eighth place.
Three Longhorns finished in the top-30, led by senior Scottie Scheffler in a tie for 23rd.
Scheffler shot a 1-under 69 during the final round with his four birdies.
He began the day with three bogeys and one birdie, but fired back on the front nine with three birdies in four holes to close the round at 1-under par.
Junior Steven Chervony shot a 74 to close the tournament 7-over and in a tie for 28th, while freshman Kristoffer Reitan shot a 75 with 12 pars to tie for 30th.
Sophomore Spencer Soosman had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, posting a 71. Sophomore Nick Costello utilized birdies on the fifth and eleventh holes and posted four bogeys to finish the day 2-over.
Texas A&M won the tournament title shooting 3-under, with Alabama (+6) and Oklahoma State (+10) finishing second and third, respectively. First place overall went to Alabama's Davis Riley, who turned in a 67 on Sunday, closing the tournament 10-under.
The Longhorns return to action at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club on Sunday, Sept. 24th.
