Scheffler leads No. 6 Men’s Golf after day one at Trinity Invitational

Senior Scottie Scheffler leads the tournament at 6-under par after the first round.
DALLAS, Texas – Senior Scottie Scheffler led No. 6 Men's Golf to a second place finish to kick off the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sunday.
Scheffler shot a 6-under 65 to lead the Longhorns, making seven birdies on the day to lead the tournament by two strokes.
Scheffler made three-straight pars before making four birdies to one bogey in the next six holes to make the turn at 3-under par. On the back nine, he made three birdies to six pars to close the round with a 6-under 65 for his lowest round of the season.
Freshman Kristoffer Reitan also finished in the top-10, shooting a 2-under 69. He made three birdies on the front nine to one bogey to make the turn at 2-under par. He made another birdie on 10, made three bogeys and closed the round with an eagle to finish 2-under par.
Sophomore Spencer Soosman tied for 14th with a 1-under 70, picking up five birdies and two bogeys. Senior Doug Ghim had a perfect back nine, finishing 1-over par at a 72, while junior Steven Chervony shot a 74.
The Longhorns concluded day one in second place shooting a 276, 1 stroke behind leader Florida. They made a tournament-high 19 birdies.
Sophomore Nick Costello competed as an individual and ended the day with a 73.
Texas will begin the second round on Monday, September 25th starting at 9:20 a.m. CT Auburn and Kansas State.
