Junior Steven Chervony fired a 66 to lead the Longhorns during the final round.
DALLAS – Junior Steven Chervony fired a third-round 66 to lead No. 6 Texas Men's Golf to a fourth place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday.
Chervony's 66 was the lowest round by any player this season. He began his round par-birdie-par before making birdies on five of the next six holes to make the turn at 5-under par. He made a double-bogey on 10, but fired back with an eagle on 11 before closing the round with seven-straight pars to finish 5-under par.
Senior Doug Ghim finished as the low player for the Longhorns, repeating his second-round 69 with a third-round 69 to tie for eighth.
Ghim made four-straight pars before making two birdies in three holes. He closed the front nine at 2-under par and immediately dropped to 3-under with a birdie on 10. He made six pars and one bogey to return to 2-under to finish the round with a par on 18 at 2-under.
He finished with a tournament-high 40 pars.
Sophomore Spencer Soosman also finished in the top-24 for Texas with his even 71 on the final day. He made one bogey on the front nine and followed with three birdies and two bogeys on the back to finish in a tie for 24th.
Freshman Kristoffer Reitan carded a 73, while senior Scottie Scheffler shot a third-round 78 to tie for 36th with Chervony.
As a team, Texas finished 12 strokes behind winner Florida, while USC's Justin Suh topped the player leaderboard at 10-under par.
The Longhorns will be back in action at the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Post-Tournament Quotes
Head Coach John Fields
It was an education playing at Trinity Forest in Dallas. The new Crenshaw Coore designed golf course will make our team better in the future.
We didn't have our best golf this week, but we had some great individual performances. Steven Chervony's 66 today was great, as was Doug Ghim's 69. Better golf is ahead for the Longhorns.
