Baseball one-hits UTSA in 2-0 Tuesday night shutout

The Longhorns used four pitchers to claim their first one-hitter since 2015.
AUSTIN, Texas—Bolstered by freshman Nico O'Donnell's 5.1 innings of shutout ball, Texas Baseball one-hit visiting UTSA on Tuesday night en route to a 2-0 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to David Hamilton and Masen Hibbeler at the top of the order. Hamilton, who also displayed stellar defense on the night, beat out a bunt single to open the game and moved to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Hibbeler followed with an RBI single to left and the Longhorns got out to an early 1-0 lead.
Texas plated another run in the bottom of the fifth, once again thanks to a defensive miscue by the Roadrunners. This time, with two outs, Hibbeler drew a walk to keep the inning alive. Kody Clemens followed with a single to left-center and, after the shortstop threw the ball away in attempt to catch Clemens advancing, Hibbeler scurried home to give Texas a 2-0 advantage.
That would be all the Longhorns pitchers would need in the game, as a combination of O'Donnell, Verplank, Ridgeway, and Kingham held the Roadrunners to just one hit on the night. Following O'Donnell's 5.1 one-hit frames, Verplank contributed a perfect two-thirds of an inning, Ridgeway went six-up, six-down, and Nolan Kingham, who started on Friday at LSU, came on for the ninth. The right-hander allowed a walk but faced the minimum to pick up his third career save and first since his freshman season in 2016.
Texas returns to UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday night for the first of four games (including a Saturday double-header) against Northwestern.
