GAME NOTES
THE MATCHUP—Texas returns to the road for a midweek matchup at No. 22 Texas A&M…last season, Texas won, 4-3, in Austin…Texas A&M won, 5-4, on a walk-off HR in 2016 in College Station.
A LOOK AT THE AGGIES—Texas A&M is coming off a SEC series win over then-No. 20 LSU…the Aggies dropped the opener before taking the next two…junior second baseman Michael Helman paces the Aggies offense with a .402/.481/.568 line while sophomore left fielder Logan Foster has racked up a team-high six homers and sophomore shortstop Braden Shewmake has a team-best 31 RBI…as a team, Texas A&M has compiled a 2.79 ERA in 32 games.
A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas has won six straight and 13 of its last 16 games overall…the six-game winning streak is the longest of the season for the Horns…over the weekend, the Longhorns completed their second Big 12 Conference series sweep with a three wins over Baylor…the Longhorns held Baylor to one run over the final two games…Kody Clemens continues to lead the offense, compiling a .358/.470/.683 line to go along with a team-high 9 homers and 32 RBI…he hit his 9th homer of the season on Saturday, which would stand as the game-winner…the Texas bullpen combined to allow just one run in 11 innings pitched over the weekend against Baylor.
NEXT UP—Texas will stay on the road this weekend for a three-game Big 12 Conference series at No. 16 Oklahoma…the Sooners are 8-1 in Big 12 action so far this season.
MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICA—Perfect Game/Rawlings and D1Baseball.com each announced their Midseason All-America teams last week and 2B Kody Clemens was named to the first team on both…the Longhorns have not had an end-of-season first team All-American since Corey Knebel in 2011… Clemens went 0-for-5 on 3/27, snapping his 26-game reached base streak and his nine-game hitting streak, but has amassed an eight-game streak since…the junior has opened the 2018 campaign on a tear…he began 2018 with a 13-game hit streak, the longest for a Longhorn since Madison Carter's 15-game streak in 2014…Clemens has 27 walks to 20 Ks on the season, is 4-for-5 in stolen bases, and holds a team-best 1.153 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage)…he hit his 9th homer of the year on Saturday, setting a new career-high after hitting 5 in 54 games last season…he ranks first in the Big 12 in homers, second in walks (27), fourth in RBI (32), first in total bases (84), and first in slugging percentage (.683).
ZUUUBOMB—Redshirt-freshman Zach Zubia was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week on Monday after hitting .368/.400/.632 with his sixth homer of the season…it is the first league honor of Zubia's career…he has reached base safely in each of the last 33 games in his rookie campaign and is second on the team with 28 RBI.
GO DJ, THAT'S MY DJ—After the first five attempted stolen bases against him were successful, junior catcher DJ Petrinsky has caught 13-of-18 since, improving his caught stealing percentage to over 50% for the season.
