AUSTIN, Texas—A masterful complete game effort from starter Nolan Kingham and a two-RBI day for Masen Hibbeler propelled No. 17 Texas Baseball (35-18, 15-7 Big 12) to a 3-2 series-opening win over TCU (30-20, 10-11 Big 12) on Thursday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns offense gave Kingham enough support in the ballgame as Texas picked up a run in the second with a Jake McKenzie RBI groundout and added another in the third on a Masen Hibbeler sac fly.
In the fifth, Hibbeler launched a 2-0 offering over the left field fence to put Texas on top, 3-0. It was the fourth homer of the season for Hibbeler, who finished the day 1-for-1 with two walks and two RBI.
Kingham (6-2), who hadn't tossed a complete game since the season opener, kept the Horned Frogs in check throughout the night. He allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out six on the night. TCU finally broke through with two runs in the seventh inning, but Kingham settled in afterward and went the distance, tossing 116 pitches in the win.
The Longhorns and Horned Frogs return to action tomorrow night with a 6:30 p.m. contest. The game will also serve as Military Appreciation Night at the ballpark.
