STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 8 University of Texas women's golf team will make its 27th all-time appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship when it travels to Stillwater, Okla., to participate in the event at Karsten Creek Golf Club May 18-23.
The event features four rounds of stroke play - with a cut to the top-15 teams before the final stroke play round on Monday - and then a match-play championship for the final eight teams remaining in the field.
Texas, coming off back-to-back Big 12 Conference Championships, is making its third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance. The Longhorns placed 13th at last season's event. Texas' best all-time finish at the NCAA Championship is second in 1993 and 2002.
Stroke play on the 72-yard, 6,328-yard course will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on Friday, May 18. The Longhorns are set to tee off at 1:21 p.m. CT Friday in a group with Arizona and Furman.
Twenty-four teams comprise the NCAA Championship field, to include: No. 1 Alabama, No. 9 Arizona, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 19 Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, No. 4 Duke, No. 12 Florida, No. 21 Florida State, No. 7 Furman, No. 16 Kent State, No. 25 Louisville, No. 13 Northwestern, Ohio State, No. 20 Oklahoma, Ole Miss, No. 6 Southern California, No. 5 Stanford, No. 8 Texas, No. 3 UCLA, Virginia, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 15 Washington.
"I like where we're at currently," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "I think we've had a nice season up to this point, having won three times. We're coming off some nice tournaments recently - the win at Big 12s and then second place on our home course at the regional. I think we have some confidence and a little bit of momentum going into Stillwater."
The Longhorns have a record of 136-34-1 against their opponents this season, including a 39-19-1 tally against teams ranked in the Golfweek Top-25 at the time of competition. Texas has nine top-five team finishes in 12 tournaments this season, including three team victories.
Freshman Kaitlyn Papp recently became the first person in school history to be named the Big 12 Player of the Year and the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in the same season. Papp has competed in all 12 tournaments and 34 rounds for the Longhorns this season. She has a stroke average of 71.82, which ranks second on her team. Papp, Sophia Schubert and Emilee Hoffman were named to the All-Big 12 Team.
Papp and Schubert are both on pace to break the University of Texas single-season stroke average of 72.49, set by Schubert in her junior season of 2016-17.
