The Details
It was Texas that had the run of play in the early going as senior forward Cyera Hintzen recorded the match's first shot on a lengthy header outside the right post at 4:43.
During the eighth minute, the Longhorns offense was back at it as Berg had a shot blocked inside the 18. The effort deflected straight back out to the top of the box where Grosso was waiting to launch a follow-up just over the crossbar.
With Texas ahead 5-0 on shots, Baylor finally registered its first effort of the night in the 21st-minute as Reagan Padgett drove an 18-yard shot wide left of frame.
A long ball up the right wing nearly paid dividends for the Longhorns at the 25:46 mark. Hintzen gathered the lengthy pass from senior defender Atu Mshana, dribbled just into the right edge of the box and blasted a shot that traveled just inches outside the left post.
Having threatened numerous times, Texas finally grabbed the advantage at the 29:39 mark. A pass up the left wing from sophomore midfielder Carlee Allen located Brooks in some space as a Baylor defender briefly fell on the play. Brooks dribbled towards the end line before delivering a perfect cross across the top of the six. Waiting at the back post to chip the ball in from four yards out was Berg as UT grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Baylor had better spells of possession after the goal as a dangerous cross from the right wing during the 35th-minute was caught in the middle of a crowd by Madden.
Right out of the halftime locker room, Baylor's Ally Henderson forced Madden into quick action as the Texas keeper corralled a 25-yard drive.
It was Texas, however, that would double its advantage at 48:17. Grosso beat a defender up the left side and moved along the end line before crossing into the box. Waiting to tickle the twine from eight yards out with her first collegiate goal was Brooks to make it 2-0.
Baylor continued to battle as Eva Mitchell registered a header from inside the box at 50:59. Madden quickly dove fully extended to her left to bat the dangerous shot outside the post.
UT's net minder was back in action in the 56th-minute as Madden leapt back to tip a lengthy Maddie Algya effort up-and-over the cross bar.
The Bears finally managed to pull one back at 56:47, cutting the Texas lead to 2-1. Off a cross from the right wing, Camryn Wendlandt's shot was blocked out front. With the ball ricocheting around in a crowd inside the 18, Sarah Norman somehow managed to lift an eight-yard effort into the top netting.
Right back at the other end, Berg nearly made it three for the Horns as her shot from the right side of the box bent just outside the right post into the side netting.
Baylor pressed hard for the equalizer, but Madden continued to make catches and corral balls in traffic to snuff out opportunities.
In the 80th-minute, BU earned a free kick in a dangerous spot about 35 yards out. The ball was delivered into the middle, but Texas' defense managed to clear it away.
With just 55 seconds left in regulation, Madden again came up huge by stopping Norman's 16-yard drive through traffic to effectively finish off Texas' win.
