THE OPENING KICKOFF
• The University of Texas will make its 56th all-time bowl appearance, and fourth appearance in the Valero Alamo Bowl, when it faces off against No. 11 Utah on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
• The Longhorns enter the Alamo Bowl with a 7-5 record and a 5-4 mark in Big 12 play this season. Texas closed out its regular season with a 49-24 victory at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Nov. 29.
• Eleventh-ranked Utah enters the Alamo Bowl with an 11-2 record in 2019. The Utes went 8-1 in Pac-12 play and made an appearance in the conference championship game, where they were bested by now-No. 6 Oregon, 37-15.
• Texas will be playing a current member of the Pac-12 Conference for the 11th time in a bowl game this year. The Longhorns are 6-4 against the Pac-12 in bowl games and 1-1 in the Alamo Bowl. Texas is 2-1 all-time in the Alamo Bowl.
• The 2019 Valero Alamo Bowl marks Texas' third-straight bowl game appearance under head coach Tom Herman. The Longhorns are 2-0 in bowl games under Herman, winning the 2017 Texas Bowl (33-17 vs. Missouri) and the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl (28-21 vs. No. 5 Georgia).
• The game will broadcast on ESPN, with Dave Flemming (PxP), Louis Riddick (analyst) and Paul Carcaterra (reporter) on the call.
• ESPN Radio will have the national call with Tom Hart (PxP), Jordan Rogers (analyst) and Cole Cubelic (reporter) on duty.
• The Longhorn IMG Radio Network broadcast with Craig Way (play-by-play), Roger Wallace (analyst) and Quan Cosby (sideline) can be heard on Sirius channel 81, XM channel 81, and app channel 81 in addition to the local affiliates listed on page two.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES
• Texas will face Utah for the second time in program history on New Year's Eve in the 2019 Valero Alamo Bowl./
• The Longhorns won the two programs' only other meeting, a 21-12 victory in Austin, back in 1982.
• Tom Herman and Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham have never faced off during their careers as head coaches.
TEXAS' BOWL HISTORY
• Texas is making its 56th all-time bowl appearance this season, the second-most in the country behind only Alabama.
• The Longhorns have an all-time bowl record of 29-24-2 (.546) in bowl games.
• Texas will be playing a current member of the Pac-12 for the 11th time in a bowl game this year. The Longhorns are 6-4 against the Pac-12 in bowl games and 1-1 in the Alamo Bowl. Texas has faced Oregon and Washington twice, making them the Horns' most frequent Pac-12 bowl opponents.
HEAD COACH TOM HERMAN
• Tom Herman is in his fifth season overall as a head coach with a career record of 46-19 (.708). He is in his third season at The University Texas with a mark of 24-15 (.615).
• Including the 2019 season, Herman has spent 16 of his 22 seasons as a coach in the state of Texas on the collegiate level.
• Herman graduated from Cal Lutheran and received his master's degree in education from The University of Texas.
• He owns a career mark of 13-9 against top 25 opponents, 5-6 against top 10 foes and 3-3 versus teams in the top five.
CAPTAINS
The Longhorns longtime tradition of naming team captains continued this year, with the following six earning the honor for the 2019 season:

All six Longhorn Captains are first-time selections, marking the second time during Tom Herman's three seasons at the helm that all captains are first-time selections (2017).
