AUSTIN, Texas – No. 12 Texas Baseball scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat UTRGV, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The game was moved to a 4:30 p.m. start due to forecast cold temperatures.

After playing the role of walk-off here on Sunday against No. 2 LSU, Austin Todd played another big role Tuesday with a 2-for-4 game that included three RBI. He also had a big two-run game-tying single in the eighth inning.

The eighth inning rally started with a pinch-hit single by Bryce Reagan and was followed by a Duke Ellis walk. Eric Kennedy singled up the middle to load the bases with nobody out.

Todd followed with his game-tying single and Tate Shaw delivered the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Tristan Stevens pitched well in relief, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. Cole Quintanilla slammed the door in the ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.

After the first three innings were scoreless, UTRGV grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a pair of wild pitches.

Texas got a run back in the sixth inning, using some two-out hitting. Eric Kennedy singled and stole second base and Todd followed with an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1

The Vaqueros got the run back in the seventh though after a single, a walk and a wild pitch put runners in scoring position. A sacrifice fly made the score 3-1.
