Berg (two), Hintzen, Billups and McFarland all found the net for Texas during the decisive win

AUSTIN, Texas – On Friday night in an exhibition match at Mike A. Myers Stadium, No. 19 Texas soccer warmed up in a major way for next week's official season opener by blowing past Air Force, 5-0.

Four different Longhorns found the scoring column led by a brace (two goals) from junior midfielder Haley Berg. Senior All-American forward Cyera Hintzen added a goal and two assists, while sophomore forward Mackenzie McFarland and redshirt junior forward Cydney Billups each tickled the twine. Redshirt junior forward Tecora Turner and freshman forward Sydney Nobles were credited with single assists in the triumph.

Important Notes

Texas out-shot Air Force by a total of 19-11, including 11-6 in shots on goal, and managed a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Including the five-match spring season, Berg has now scored a remarkable 12 goals over Texas' last six exhibition contests.
Junior Savannah Madden (two saves) and redshirt junior Nicole Curry (four saves) each played 45 minutes in goal for the Longhorns while combining for a shutout.

The Details

Texas wasted no time jumping in front of the Falcons on Friday night as Berg danced inside the 18 to draw a second-minute penalty. The Celina, Texas, product calmly stepped up and slotted home from the spot to grant the Longhorns a 1-0 lead just 1:54 into the contest.

A Madden save preserved UT's lead at the 5:30 mark as Air Force forward Lexi Romero moved in point-blank and fired a shot that was deflected away from goal.

The Longhorns were back at it during the ninth minute as a Hintzen cross in from the right wing was tapped home from five yards out by McFarland at the right post to make it 2-0.

Hintzen nearly made it 3-0 in the 13th minute by launching a drive that rattled off the crossbar before being cleared away.

Approximately 10 minutes later, Texas did locate its third of the night as Turner corralled a ball inside the 18 and fired a strike right at Air Force keeper Danielle Katz. The ball deflected off the net minder, bouncing straight back out front to Hintzen who slotted it home for a 3-0 advantage.

UT continued its offensive pressure over the remainder of the opening half as Turner (31:18) and Nobles (34:31) each forced Katz stops.

Out of the break, it took just 5:44 for the Burnt Orange to make it 4-0 as Billups found herself in the right place out front to clean up the six-yard rebound of a Hintzen shot.

Air Force nearly clawed one back at 53:15 as Jillian Jamero turned and flicked a shot from outside the top of the 18 that bounced off the crossbar before Texas' defense cleared the ball away.

The Falcons continued their best offensive spell of the match to that point during the 55th minute as a Jamero shot was blocked out front before Romero followed up with a drive that forced Curry to make a save.

During the 70th minute, Nobles delivered a feed to Berg standing just outside the top left corner of the 18. The junior midfielder decided to try her luck from distance and curled a perfect effort into the upper right 90 for her second goal of the night to grant Texas a 5-0 lead.

From there, Texas' defense worked to close things out as the Falcons got another Romero shot on goal at 75:56 but nothing else until the final seconds.

Air Force managed to get off one final try that found the net after time expired, but the head referee waved it off to wrap up the contest.
