In Memoriam: Bob Brock

A member of the 1949 and 1950 Baseball National Championship teams and Texas Athletics Hall of Honor, Brock passed away August 16.

A member of the 1949 and 1950 Texas Baseball National Championship teams and a 2011 Texas Athletics Hall of Honor inductee, Robert Fenton Brock passed away on August, 16, 2020, at the age of 92.
Brock played center field on three Southwest Conference championship teams and two College World Series championship teams in his career from 1948-50.
One of the leading hitters on both National Championship teams, Brock batted .354 in 1949 and .377 in 1950. He had a standout final season in 1950, earning second-team All-America honors and leading the Longhorns in hits, doubles and stolen bases, while batting a spectacular .454 in the CWS.
Following his UT playing career, Brock signed with the Boston Red Sox and played professionally in minor league baseball before an injury ended his career. He was inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor in 2011.
After serving two years in the U. S. Army, he began working in sales, including a 12-year stint with IBM in Houston. Brock received an M.S. in Accountancy from the University of Houston, became a Certified Public Accountant in 1975 and was a member of the Texas Society of CPAs and National Association of Accountants.
The Houston, Texas, native, served as president of the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor and T-Association as well as Executive Vice President of the Bluebonnet Bowl.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Granberry, his sister Miriam Linsmier, brothers Frank and Bill, and grandson Stephen Condon. He is survived by his wife Kathie, daughters Bobette (Matt) Down, Jeanmarie (Tim) Tade, Mary (Walt) Feuerstack, Carol (Jimmie Hauge) Colwell, sons Steve (Bouchra) Condon, and John Condon, grandchildren Daniel and Joseph Down, Caroline and Miles Tade, Michelle Smith, Joe Nathan, Dami Lugo, Suzanne Garmon, Andrew, Adam and Ryan Condon, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church (www.cepc.org), 8300 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas. Interment of ashes will occur at a later date at the Houston National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Missions Fund at CEPC or to the charity of your choice.
