Four Longhorns posted strong marks in multi-event competition on Friday.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field team, represented by a quartet of multi-event competitors, wrapped up the first day of competition at the Texas Tech Invitational on Friday.
Freshman Kristine Blazevica completed her first collegiate pentathlon in Lubbock, placing second with a score of 4,057. Blazevica had her best performance in the day's final competition, winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:20.08. She also placed second in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.91m. Blazevica took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.62) and shot put (11.67m), and fifth in the high jump (1.64m). Her pentathlon score made her the second-best performer on UT record, behind only 2019 NCAA Outdoor heptathlon national champion Ashtin Zamzow. It was the fourth-best performance by a Longhorn in a pentathlon overall.
On the men's side, sophomore Leo Neugebauer got his multi-season off to a strong start, winning both the long jump (7.57m) and shot put (15.94m) competitions. His mark in the shot put was nearly three meters better than anyone else in the field. Neugebauer, the 2020 Big 12 Indoor heptathlon champion, also placed second in the high jump (2.06m) and third in the 60-meter dash (7.05) to post a score of 3,524 through four events. His tally is 313 points clear of second place after Friday's competition.
Neugebauer's teammates, Philip Frank and Alex Loving, sit third and fourth, respectively, in the heptathlon standings through four events. Frank's best score came in the 60-meter dash, a competition he won, after clocking a 6.97. Loving had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and long jump to anchor his score. Both Longhorns have also surpassed the 3,000-point mark, along with Neugebauer, entering the final three events on Saturday.
