Texas staff inks Christiaan Maas, Jacob Sosa and Keaton Vo.
AUSTIN, Texas — Three standout junior stars have signed National Letters of Intent to play golf at The University of Texas, head coach John Fields announced Thursday. Christiaan Maas, Jacob Sosa and Keaton Vo will be eligible as freshmen for the 2022-23 season.
"Christiaan, Jacob and Keaton are all individuals of the highest character and will bring stability to our transition from our current roster's senior-dominated excellence," Fields said.
A native of Pretoria, South Africa, Maas is the No. 1-ranked junior in South Africa and currently sits at No. 41 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). A member of the Golf RSA National squad, he has posted six wins during the 2021 season, including the Cape Province Open and the South African Amateur Championship. Maas also was the 2020 and 2021 Silver Salver Champion.
"Having coached (former Longhorns) Dylan Frittelli and Brandon Stone, I am thrilled that Christiaan will be joining us as a Longhorn," Fields said. "His WAGR ranking of Top 50 in the world is well-earned and eye catching."
Sosa, who plays at Westlake High School in Austin, is tabbed the No. 1 recruit in the state of Texas and No. 10 nationally by the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) and is the No. 3 recruit in the state and No. 14 nationally by Golfweek. A first-team Rolex Junior All-American in 2021, he also was a member of the West Team at the 2021 Wyndham Cup. Sosa earned runner-up finishes at the Texas Class 6A state high school championship in both 2019 (as a freshman) and 2021 (as a junior). He also placed third at the 2020 Texas State Amateur and earned the win at the 2019 Texas State Junior Championship.
"Jacob is a strong young player who will bring success and a great work ethic to our program," Fields said. "Having a dad (John Sosa) who played at Texas in the 90's will be extra motivation for Jacob on a daily basis."
Vo, who plays at Anderson High School in Austin, is the No. 3 recruit in the state of Texas by the AJGA and No. 4 in the state by Golfweek. A three-time Rolex Junior All-American, he also was a member of the West Team at the 2020 Wyndham Cup. Vo has registered seven top-10 finishes on the AJGA Tour, including a tie for second at the 2021 Jackie Burke Invitational. He won individual titles at the 2020 George Hannon Junior Invitational and the 2019 AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational at Lake Oconee.
"Keaton's passion and desire for the game is apparent on a daily basis," Fields said. "His success thus far is outstanding, and he has a limitless upside."
