In memoriam: Travis Eckert

A member of three-straight Southwest Conference Championship teams and a 2010 inductee into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor, Travis Eckert passed away October 29, 2021, at the age of 89.
Eckert, who played for the Longhorns from 1951-54, was a first-team All-SWC outfielder in 1953 and 1954. He also earned second-team All-American honors in 1953 and third-team All-American honors in 1954. He helped lead the 1953 team a runner-up finish at the College World Series.
Following his Texas Baseball career, Eckert went on to play Minor League Baseball in the Chicago Cubs organization.
A lifelong resident of Austin, Eckert volunteered as an official at the Texas Relays for 37 years and helped to found the Texas Relays Officials Association.
Travis is predeceased by his parents, his siblings, and Carol, his wife of 61 years. He is survived by his three children of whom he was very proud, his beloved grandchildren, Bolton Eckert, Travis C. Eckert, and Neal Sansing, and numerous nieces and nephews.
