No. 1 Women’s Tennis sweeps Florida Atlantic, 4-0

The Longhorns advance to host SMU in Saturday’s ITA Kickoff Weekend regional championship match (2 p.m. CT) at the Texas Tennis Center.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team swept Florida Atlantic, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. With the victory, the Longhorns (2-0) advance to play SMU (3-0) in the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional championship match at 2 p.m. Central on Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.
SMU defeated Rice 4-2 on Friday to earn its spot in Saturday's regional championship match. The winners of each regional site advance to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 11-14 in Madison, Wis. Florida Atlantic (2-3) and Rice (1-1) will meet in Saturday's consolation match at 2 p.m. Central.
In Friday's match, Texas claimed a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The duo of freshman Sabina Zeynalova and sophomore Kylie Collins won the final four games of their match to close out a 6-1 victory on court 1 against Martina Kudelova and Katerina Filip. The sophomore tandem of Charlotte Chavatipon and Peyton Stearns followed by winning the final four games of their contest to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court 2 over Lexi Silna and Greta Schieroni.
When the match at No. 2 doubles finished, the contest at No. 3 doubles was at match point. UT's freshman duo of Allura Zamarripa and Vivian Ovrootsky promptly won the point to finish off a 6-1 victory on court 3 against Amber McGinnis and Millie-Mae Matthews.
The Longhorns dropped just three total games in singles action to complete the sweep of FAU. Stearns improved to 5-0 overall on the year (2-0 in dual-match play) after a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court 1 over Kudelova. Ovrootsky moved to 2-0 in dual-match action with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court 6 against Matthews. Zeynalova improved to 2-0 in dual-match play and clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court 5 over McGinnis.
The remaining three singles matches featuring No. 40 Collins, Chavatipon and Zamarripa were stopped following Zeynalova's clinching point.
