The Longhorns scored 10 runs on 14 hits and cruised to a 10-2 win over the Bearkats.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – No. 1 Texas Baseball cruised to a 10-2 win over Sam Houston on Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium. The Longhorns improved to 9-0 on the season to begin a stretch of 10-of-11 games on the road.
Andre Duplantier II was outstanding, pitching a career-high six innings and allowing just one run on one hit. The only run he allowed came in the second inning, giving up a leadoff double that later scored on a fielder's choice groundout.
The Longhorns had an immediate answer to the early Bearkat run, scoring a pair of runs on three-straight two-out hits to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. Douglas Hodo III lined a single, Eric Kennedy followed with a hustling double and Ivan Melendez drove them both in with a two-run single.
Texas methodically added to the lead scoring seven of the first eight runs with two outs.
The Longhorns did some two-out damage in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 5-1. Texas loaded the bases on a walk by Murphy Stehly and singles by Trey Faltine and Skyler Messinger. Hodo then hit a two-run single through the left side before Kennedy hit an RBI single to score Faltine.
Three more runs came home in the sixth inning to give the Longhorns an 8-1 lead. With Faltine at first, Dylan Campbell executed a perfect hit-and-run to get the first run across. After a couple of walks, Mitchell Daly slashed a two-out two-run single to provide some cushion to the lead.
Messinger extended the lead to 10-1 with a two-run homer to left field in the seventh inning. The homer was the first of his Texas career.
Daniel Blair pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout out of the bullpen. Lebarron Johnson also pitched a scoreless inning of relief and struck out two batters.
Sam Houston scored a run in the eighth inning to trim the Texas lead to 10-2.
Texas will head to Houston this weekend for the Shriners Children's College Classic, starting against Tennessee on Friday at 7 p.m. at Minute Maid Park.
