Former Longhorn records his 13th career PGA TOUR victory.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Former University of Texas star Jordan Spieth won the RBC Heritage on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff against Patrick Cantlay on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Town Golf Links. Spieth earned his 13th career PGA TOUR victory and first since the 2021 Valero Texas Open.
Spieth becomes the 82nd player to reach 13 wins on the PGA TOUR. He improved his career playoff record on the PGA TOUR to 5-3.
Spieth, who entered Sunday three shots back of the lead in a tie for ninth place, carded a final-round score of 5-under 66. He was aided by a pair of front-nine eagles on the second and fifth holes and closed with a birdie on 18. With the two eagles in his final round, Spieth became the 17th different player (20th instance) on record (1983-present) to make multiple eagles in the final round and go on to win a PGA TOUR event.
On the first playoff hole (18th hole) against Cantlay, both players ended up in the bunker in front of the green. Spieth hit a spectacular shot out of the sand and tapped in for par, while Cantlay was left with a long putt for par that he was not able to convert.
Spieth's win comes one week after Scottie Scheffler won the Masters Tournament in Augusta. The two former Longhorns have combined to post five PGA TOUR wins in the last 64 days, as Scheffler previously claimed wins this season at the WM Phoenix Open on Feb. 13, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on March 6 and the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play Championship on March 27.
Spieth is one of 17 different former Longhorns to claim a win on the PGA TOUR. Those 17 individuals have now combined to capture 96 all-time PGA TOUR victories.
