Collins and Stearns begin play in 64-player singles draw on Monday, while Stearns/Zamarripa open in 32-team doubles bracket on Tuesday.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — University of Texas women's tennis sophomores Kylie Collins and Peyton Stearns will begin action in the 64-player draw at the NCAA Singles Championships on Monday, May 23. The duo of Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa open play in the 32-team bracket at the NCAA Doubles Championships on Tuesday, May 24. The NCAA released the draws for the individual championships on Sunday, with opponents and start times for first-round matches.
Stearns, No. 2 in the latest ITA national singles (May 4) and the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, will face No. 67 Sydni Ratliff of Ohio State at 7 p.m. Central in Monday's first round. Stearns enters tonight's NCAA Championship Match with a 26-2 singles record during the 2022 spring season, including a 16-2 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. This will mark her second NCAA Singles appearance, as she advanced to the Round of 32 last year as a freshman.
No. 49 in the latest ITA national singles rankings, Collins will meet No. 3 seed Petra Hule of Florida State at 6 p.m. Central in Monday's first round. Collins enters tonight's NCAA Championship Match with a 25-10 overall singles record this year. This marks her first career NCAA Singles appearance. Last year, Collins paired with Lulu Sun and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Stearns and Zamarripa, No. 11 in the latest ITA national doubles rankings (May 4), will face No. 19 Angelica Blake and Connie Ma of Stanford in Tuesday's first round (time TBD). Stearns and Zamarripa enter tonight's NCAA Championship Match with an 11-3 record in dual-match doubles play this spring. This marks the first NCAA Doubles appearance for both Stearns and Zamarripa.
The NCAA singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill. All matches will be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
