Czech, Goode propel Texas to a come-from-behind victory as the Longhorns knock out the Mean Green
AUSTIN, TX – The University of Texas softball program picked up its 12th overall win, and 10th at Red & Charline McCombs Field, this season after picking up a 4-2 victory over North Texas on Wednesday night.
North Texas (10-5) plated the game's first run on a solo home run to begin the top of the second inning, but a four spot from the Longhorns (12-2-1) in the bottom of the third was enough offense for Estelle Czech (4-1) and Mac Morgan (S, 1). The four-run inning was highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of freshman Leighann Goode, her third home run in as many games.
A throwing error and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Courtney Day plated the other two runs.
North Texas led off the top of the sixth with their second solo home run on the evening to cut the deficit. An inning later, the Mean Green had the game-tying run at second with one out, but a pop up and ground out ended the scoring threat.
FROM HEAD COACH MIKE WHITE
"I think we just needed to keep our composure tonight after (North Texas) took the early one-run lead. We needed to make their pitcher throw pitches — and we did — before Leighann Goode came up and continued to show that she's not playing like a freshman right now. She had a phenomenal at bat to get us back in the game."
