No. 9/11 Softball preview: Longhorn Invitational

Texas continues its lengthy homestand by hosting four teams for this weekend’s Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, TX – Less than 48 hours after knocking off North Texas in a mid-week contest on Wednesday, March 1, The University of Texas softball program will return to action on Friday, March 3 as part of the Longhorn Invitational hosted by the Longhorns.
The Longhorn Invitational will feature five non-conference games on both Friday and Saturday, before a two-game slate on Sunday concludes the action.
Each of Texas' five games on the weekend will be broadcasted on Longhorn Network with Alex Loeb and Cat Osterman wearing the headsets. Longhorn action can also be heard on 105.3 FM with Andrew Haynes describing the action.

LEADING OFF
- During the early portion of the 2023 softball season, Leighann Goode and Viviana Martinez have each had separate 10-game hitting streaks, making 2023 the third different season in program history to have multiple student-athletes with exactly 10-game hitting streaks.
- In 2009, Loryn Johnson (March 13-28) and Courtney Craigh (March 26-April 10) had such streaks, while McKenzie Parker (March 9-19), Mary Iakopo (April 30-May 22) and Mia Scott (Feb.19-March 5) all had 10-game streaks during the 2022 season.
- Note: Tamara Poppe had a 10-game streak begin on May 25, 2003 and carry over to Feb. 6, 2004. Chez Sievers (March 8-April 4) also a 10-game streak during the 2004 season.
- Leighann Goode will enter this weekend's action leading the nation in runs per game with a 1.80 clip, 0.30 higher than the next closest Division I softball student-athlete in Tennessee's Kiki Milloy (1.50).
- Goode's 1.80 runs per game average is the highest by a freshman with Alabama's Kenleigh Cahalan next with a 1.21 mark.
- Oklahoma State's Tallen Edwards is the next closest to Goode — among freshman Big 12 softball student-athletes — with a 1.21 runs per game average.
- Earlier in the week, Goode set a single-game program record with five runs scored in the Longhorns' 22-0 win over Texas Southern on Sunday, Feb. 26.
- Goode's 1.80 runs per game average is the highest by a freshman with Alabama's Kenleigh Cahalan next with a 1.21 mark.
- This weekend's action will mark the third in four weekends that the Texas softball program will have played at least one ranked team, per the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, when the Longhorns played No. 24 Louisiana on Friday night.
- Among the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll, Texas has already played No. 23 Missouri, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 17 Kentucky, No. 12 Virginia Tech.
- Texas will enter this weekend's slate of games featuring the top three softball student-athletes in the Big 12 Conference in relate to total hits on the season.

- 2. Mia Scott (25)
- 3. Viviana Martinez (24)
- The trio of Longhorns are also ranked in the top 10 in the nation in hits: Goode (5), Scott (8) and Martinez (10).
- Goode's 26 hits are the most in the country by a Division I freshman.
- Stanford's River Mahler (24) and Viviana Martinez (24) are tied for the second most.
