Baseball takes down Manhattan, 8-1

The Longhorns allowed just one run on two hits after pitching six no-hit innings to star the game.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball picked up a series-opening win over Manhattan, 8-1, on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (7-7) held the Jaspers to just two hits in the game and pitched eight shutout innings before a solo homer in the top of the ninth.
Lucas Gordon pitched six no-hit innings and struck out a season-high nine batters. He allowed just three base runners, on walks, and picked up his first win of the season.
Charlie Hurley pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and DJ Burke finished off the game in the top of the ninth.
Garret Guillemette went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and one run driven in. Peyton Powell finished 1-for-2 with a double and drove in three runs.
The Longhorns scratched out an unearned run in the first inning after Dylan Campbell reached on a one-out error. Porter Brown singled and stole second before Guillemette walked to load the bases. Powell drove in the first run of the game with a bases-loaded walk.
Texas scored two more unearned runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 3-0 over the Jaspers. Brown reached on a dropped third strike that was thrown away and Guillemette drove him in with an RBI double to left field. After a walk to Powell, another error allowed Guillemette to score.
The Longhorns tacked on another run in the seventh to go up 4-0 when Jalin Flores hit a two-out single up the middle to drive in Guillemette.
Powell drove in two more runs with a two-RBI double to the gap in left-center in the eighth. Mitchell Daly drove in Powell with a two-out RBI single to right and then scored on an error to make the Longhorns' lead 8-0.
Texas and Manhattan will square off in Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
