The Longhorns extended their winning streak to 16 games with a win over the Cowboys.
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 21 Texas Baseball opened the series at No. 17 Oklahoma State with a 5-3 win on Friday night at O'Brate Stadium.
The Longhorns (20-7, 4-0) extended their winning streak to 16 games with the win and remained unbeaten in Big 12 Conference play. The winning streak is tied for the 16th-longest in program history and is the longest since the team won 16-straight in 2021.
Lucas Gordon had his longest outing of the season, pitching seven innings and allowing just three runs on seven hits. He struck out four batters and only had one walk to pick up the win and improve to 3-0 on the season.
Zane Morehouse closed out his fourth save of the season, coming into the ninth with a runner on and nobody out. He got a pop up, a strikeout and a ground out to secure the win.
Dylan Campbell had a big day at the plate and came up a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and a bunt single.
Garret Guillemette and Jalin Flores both hit two-run homers and finished with two RBI apiece.
Oklahoma State opened the scoring with a run in the second inning but Gordon did well to limit the damage after the bases were loaded with just one out.
Texas had a quick response, scoring three two-out runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Campbell doubled down the left field line and Guillemette hammered a two-run homer to straightaway center field. Porter Brown kept the inning going with a double and Jack O'Dowd drove him in with an RBI single to left.
Jalin Flores extended the Longhorns' lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning with a two-run homer to right field.
The Cowboys got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to trim the lead to 5-2. Oklahoma State hit another solo home run in the sixth that cut the Texas lead to 5-3.
David Shaw pitched one scoreless inning of relief to set up Morehouse for the save.
Texas and Oklahoma State will square off in Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 6 p.m. at O'Brate Stadium.
