No. 14 Baseball drops series to Oklahoma

The Longhorns lost the first game of Saturday’s double header to drop the series to the Sooners.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 14 Texas Baseball dropped the series against Oklahoma with a 9-6 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (27-14, 8-6) and Sooners will finish the series in the backend of the doubleheader on Saturday night.
Chase Lummus was outstanding out of the bullpen and gave the Longhorns a chance. He pitched a career-high five innings and allowed only one run, while striking out five batters.
The Longhorns dug themselves a big hole, giving up five runs in the second inning on four walks and just two hits. The big inning chased starter Travis Sthele out of the game and Zane Morehouse was forced to come out of the bullpen early.
Oklahoma scored three more runs in the third inning on three more free passes and two hits to expand the lead to 8-0.
Starting in the bottom of the third, the Longhorns began to chip away at the Oklahoma lead. Peyton Powell hit an RBI single in the third, Jalin Flores lined an RBI single in the fourth and Garret Guillemette hit an RBI single in the fifth to trim the lead to 8-3.
Texas put together a three-run sixth inning to trim the Sooners' lead to 8-6. Jared Thomas started the inning with a single and came around to score on a double by Jack O'Dowd. With two outs, Dylan Campbell launched a two-run homer to right field.
Oklahoma got a run back in the top of the eighth to extend its lead to 9-6 and closed out the win.
