MIAMI, Fla. – Texas Baseball rode a masterful complete game performance from Lebarron Johnson Jr. to a 4-1 win over Miami on Saturday at Alex Rodriguez Park. The Longhorns (40-20) advance to the NCAA Coral Gables Regional Final on Sunday at 5 p.m. CT against either Miami or Louisiana.
Johnson was brilliant in his first career complete game, despite the start of the game being delayed more than two hours due to weather. He allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out eight batters. He picked up the win and improved his record to 8-3 on the season.
Dylan Campbell went 2-for-4, launching a two-run homer in the first inning to extend his program and Big 12 record hitting streak to 37 games.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with the two-run blast by Campbell over the scoreboard in left field.
Miami loaded the bases in both of the first and second innings but Johnson was able to work out of the jams unscathed.
Jack O'Dowd launched the Longhorns' second homer of the game in the second, a solo shot to make the lead 3-0.
The Hurricanes loaded the bases again in the second and yet again Johnson managed to get out of trouble without any runs scoring.
The Longhorns tacked on another run in the top of the third to extend the lead to 4-0. There were a pair of hit batters in the inning and Jalin Flores hit a two-out RBI single up the middle.
Miami got it's only run on the board in the fourth with a solo home run to left field to trim the lead to 4-1.
Johnson would then retire 11-straight batters from the fourth through seventh innings. He worked around a two-out triple in the eighth and then in the ninth got a game-ending groundball double play.
