No. 16 Baseball blasts Houston Christian

The Longhorns put together a huge day at the plate with 20 runs on 24 hits.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 16 Texas Baseball had a huge offensive day, finishing one hit shy of tying the program record, while blasting Houston Christian 20-3 on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (4-1) pounded out 24 hits, including seven doubles, one triple and three home runs. Texas also took full advantage of several free passes with four walks and four HBPs.
With the huge lead, Texas was able to empty the bench and use 19 position players with several players getting their first career hit. Dee Kennedy, Casey Borba, Oliver Service and Tommy Farmer all had their first career hits in the game.
Rylan Galvan had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Jared Thomas went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Payton Powell went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBI.
Easton Tumis came out of the bullpen early and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters to pick up his first career win. Hudson Hamilton pitched two innings and allowed just one unearned run, while Andre Duplantier II pitched two innings with one run allowed. Cade O'Hara made his pitching debut with a scoreless ninth inning.
Houston Christian scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly off of starter Luke Harrison.
The Longhorns grabbed the lead with a three-run second inning using a string of five hits. Jack O'Dowd got the inning started with a double and scored on a single by Galvan. Kennedy then legged out an infield single for his first career hit to keep the inning going. Will Gasparino followed that up with an RBI single to left to drive in Galvan and give Texas the lead. After another single by Thomas loaded the bases, Powell drove in the third run with an RBI groundout.
Texas scored three more runs on four hits in the third to extend the lead to 6-1. Jalin Flores doubled and O'Dowd drove him in with an RBI single to right field. After a pitching change, Galvan hammered an RBI double to drive in O'Dowd. Gasparino then drove in his second run of the game with an RBI double down the left field line.
The Huskies got an unearned run back in the top of the fifth but the Longhorns got the run back and more in the bottom half.
Texas sent 12 batters to the plate and mashed six runs on seven hits in a big bottom of the fifth. Galvan led off the inning by hitting his first home run of the season. Kennedy followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning. Powell later hammered a two-run homer to right field before Galvan got his second at-bat of the inning and drove in another run.
The Longhorns scored four more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 16-2. Gasparino and Thomas hit back-to-back doubles for the first run of the inning. Porter Brown hit an RBI single and pinch-runner Cam Constantine later scored on a groundout. Casey Borba capped off the inning with a towering home run for his first career hit.
Texas scored two more runs in the seventh and two more in the eight to finish off the scoring.
The Longhorns are back home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this weekend to host Cal Poly starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
