No. 16 Men’s Golf completes day two at Amer Ari Invitational

KOHALA COAST, Hawaii — The No. 16 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 3-under-par 285 on Friday and is in 17th place after the second round at the Amer Ari Invitational at Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club. Sophomore Tommy Morrison registered a 2-under 70 in Friday's second round and is tied for 41st in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 138 (68-70).
The Longhorns received under-par rounds from Morrison, graduate Brian Stark (2-under 70) and senior Nathan Petronzio (1-under 71) on Friday. Texas has a 36-hole team total of 10-under-par 566 (281-285).
No. 2 North Carolina holds the 36-hole lead in the team standings at 46-under-par 530 (262-268). No. 7 Arizona State (265-268) and No. 1 Auburn (272-261) are tied for second at 43-under-par 533. The 20-team field features nine teams in the latest national rankings provided by Scoreboard powered by clippd.
Wenyi Ding of Arizona State owns the 36-hole individual lead at 17-under-par 127 (63-64). Auburn's Jackson Koivun (67-63) and Washington's Finn Koelle (66-64) are tied for second at 14-under-par 130.
The Amer Ari Invitational concludes with a final round on Saturday, Feb. 10. Texas will be paired with UC Davis, Hawaii-Hilo and Osaka Gakuin (Japan) for Saturday's final round, which features a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m. Hawaii Time (11:30 a.m. CT).
The Lineup
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison carded a 2-under 70 on Friday and is tied for 41st place in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 138 (68-70). After starting his round with a bogey on hole 15, he responded with six birdies to go along with one bogey and one double-bogey over his final 17 holes.
- Graduate Brian Stark posted a 2-under 70 in his second round and is tied for 60th at 3-under-par 141 (71-70). Starting on hole 14, he registered four birdies against a pair of bogeys on Friday.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio recorded a 1-under 71 on Friday and is tied for 60th at 3-under-par 141 (70-71). Starting on hole 13, he tallied four birdies against three birdies in his second round.
- Sophomores Christiaan Maas (72-74) and Keaton Vo (72-74) both posted scores of 2-over 74 in the second round and are tied for 96th at 2-over-par 146.
- Competing as an individual, sophomore Jacob Sosa carded a 2-under 70 on Friday and is tied for 96th place at 2-over-par 146 (76-70). Starting on hole 16, he began his second round with a score of 3-over through his first seven holes. Sosa responded by posting five birdies and six pars over his final 11 holes.
