Baseball drops series opener to Baylor in extra innings

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball dropped the series opener to Baylor, 4-3, in 11 innings on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (13-9, 2-2) will look to bounce back and even the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning, the Longhorns loaded the bases with nobody out but were only able to score one run to tie it 3-3 and send the game to extra innings. Baylor was able to score the game-winning run in the 11th off of reliever Gage Boehm.
Boehm pitched well in relief, going four innings and allowing just the one run on two hits.
Starting pitcher Lebarron Johnson Jr. pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk. He struck out four batters and did not factor in the decision.
Peyton Powell and Kimble Schuessler each had two hits in the game to lead the offense.
Texas opened the scoring with an unearned run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Jared Thomas and Powell started the game with back-to-back singles, but three straight groundballs kept the Longhorns from scoring more than one run.
Baylor got the run right back in the top of the second with a one-out RBI double to tie the game 1-1.
The Longhorns retook the lead with a run in the third after Powell walked and Flores singled to put two on. Schuessler delivered with an RBI single to left field to drive in Powell.
The Bears took their first lead of the day with two runs on three hits off of Johnson in the top of the seventh.
Texas loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth, forcing Baylor back to the bullpen. The Longhorns scored a run on a groundball double play to tie the game 3-3 but that was all they could muster.
Baylor jumped back in front in the 11th inning, with a one-out RBI double to center field off of Boehm.
