The Longhorns will continue their homestand this weekend against TCU.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball dropped its midweek game against UTRGV, 17-9, on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (22-16, 9-6) will continue their homestand this weekend, welcoming TCU for a Big 12 Conference series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

After allowing a solo home run in the top of the first, starting pitcher Jared Thomas responded with a solo home run of his own on the first pitch of the bottom of the first. The leadoff homer was the first by a Longhorn since Eric Kennedy led off the game versus New Orleans on March 19, 2023.

The Vaqueros retook the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second after four-straight two-out free passes. UTRGV added two runs to the lead in the third inning with a solo home run and another bases loaded walk.

Things got out of hand in the fourth inning as the Vaqueros took advantage of six more free passes in the fourth inning and scored six runs to take a 10-1 lead.

The Longhorns issued four more free passes in the fifth inning and allowed three more runs to grow the deficit to 13-1.

UTRGV kept scoring in the sixth with a two-run homer to make the score 15-1.

Texas scored six runs in the sixth inning on four free passes and three hits to cut the lead to 15-7. Oliver Service hit a pinch-hit two-run double to left field and Tommy Farmer hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the inning.

The Vaqueros got one run back in the seventh and another in the eighth to make the score 17-7.

Texas scored two more unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth but that was all the runs for the Longhorns.
