No. 17 Men’s Golf in second after day one at Big 12 Championship

Vo fires a 3-under-par 141 on Monday and is tied for third in the individual standings.
TRINITY, Texas — The No. 17 Texas Men's Golf team carded a two-round total of even-par 576 (285-291) on Monday to rest in second place after the opening day of the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club. Sophomore Keaton Vo posted a 3-under-par 141 (70-71) and is tied for third in the individual standings after the first 36 holes.
BYU holds the team lead after the first two rounds at 1-under-par 575 (283-292), just one stroke in front of the Longhorns at 576. Oklahoma State is in third at 3-over-par 579 (295-284).
Peter Kim of BYU (67-72) and Cincinnati's Ty Gingerich (65-74) are tied for the individual lead with two-round totals of 5-under-par 139. Vo is tied for third with Santiago De La Fuente of Houston (70-71), just two strokes behind the leaders at 3-under-par 141. Only eight individuals in the 70-player field recorded a score of under-par through the first 36 holes.
Texas has four of its players ranked in the top 12 in the individual standings following the opening day of the tournament. In addition to Vo, a trio of Longhorns that includes graduate Brian Stark (73-72), sophomore Tommy Morrison (72-73) and senior Nathan Petronzio (70-75) are all tied for 12th place at 1-over-par 145.
The Big 12 Championship continues with third-round play on Tuesday, April 23 before concluding with a final round on Wednesday, April 24. Texas will be paired with BYU and Oklahoma State for Tuesday's third round and will tee off beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT on hole 1.
The Lineup
- Sophomore Keaton Vo fired a 36-hole total of 3-under-par 141 (70-71) and is tied for third in the individual standings, just two strokes off the lead. During his morning round, Vo made four birdies (holes 5, 10, 12 and 15) and 13 pars in his first 17 holes to climb to 4-under before finishing at 2-under 70. He began his afternoon round on hole 10 and reached 3-under through his first 11 holes (birdies on holes 13, 15 and 2) before closing at 1-under 71.
- Graduate Brian Stark carded a two-round total of 1-over-par 145 (73-72) and is tied for 12th after the opening day. Stark recorded a pair of birdies (holes 3 and 12) in his morning round. Starting on hole 10 in his afternoon round, he was 2-over through his first seven holes but rallied to make a pair of birdies (holes 5 and 8) along with nine pars to finish at even-par 72.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison fired a 36-hole score of 1-over-par 145 (72-73) and is tied for 12th in the individual standings. Morrison's morning round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 5th hole. Starting on hole 10 in his afternoon round, he made a pair of birdies (holes 12 and 1) along with 14 pars over his first 16 holes.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio carded a two-round total of 1-over-par 145 (70-75) and is tied for 12th after the opening day. Petronzio began his morning round with birdies on three of his first four holes. After dropping back to even-par through his first 10 holes, he holed out from the fairway and made an eagle on the par-four 11th hole, then closed out his round with seven-straight pars. Petronzio made three birdies during his afternoon round.
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas posted a 36-hole score of 6-over-par 150 (73-77) and is tied for 44th in the individual standings. Maas tallied six birdies during his morning round and reached 3-under through his first 12 holes. His afternoon round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 2nd hole.
