No. 13 Men’s Golf owns 10-stroke lead after second round at NCAA Austin Regional

Maas cards a 4-under 67 as all five Longhorns shoot under-par on Tuesday.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 13 Texas Men's Golf team posted an 11-under-par 273 on Tuesday to increase its lead to 10 strokes following the second round of the NCAA Austin Regional at The University of Texas Golf Club. Sophomore Christiaan Maas recorded the low round of the day for the Longhorns with a 4-under 67, as all five Texas players shot under-par in the second round.
The top of the individual leaderboard after 36 holes is dominated by the Longhorns. Graduate Brian Stark (68-68), senior Nathan Petronzio (67-69) and sophomore Tommy Morrison (67-69) are each tied for second at 6-under-par 136, just one shot behind the leader, Michael Brennan of Wake Forest, at 7-under-par 135 (67-68). Maas jumped 20 spots in the standings and is tied for sixth at 4-under-par 138 (71-67).
The NCAA Austin Regional features 13 teams and 10 individual players. The top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 24-29 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Texas owns the 36-hole team lead at 22-under-par 546 (273-273). The Longhorns are 10 shots ahead of regional top seed and No. 5 Tennessee in second at 12-under-par 556 (276-280), while Notre Dame is third at 10-under-par 558 (275-283). BYU is fourth at 6-under-par 562 (279-283), and Utah is in fifth place at even-par 568 (285-283). The Longhorns hold a 24-stroke cushion over Wake Forest in sixth at 2-over-par 570 (289-281).
The NCAA Austin Regional concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday, May 15. Texas will be paired with Tennessee and Notre Dame for Wednesday's final round, and tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. Central off the 1st tee.
The Lineup
- Graduate Brian Stark carded a 3-under 68 for the second straight day and is tied for second in the individual standings after 36 holes at 6-under-par 136 (68-68). Stark was even-par at the turn on Tuesday but recorded birdies on holes 11, 13 and 14 to finish at 3-under in his second round.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio fired a 2-under 69 on Tuesday and is tied for second in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 136 (67-69). Petronzio was 1-over through 12 holes but rallied to register birdies on holes 13, 15 and 17 to finish at 2-under in his second round.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison posted a 2-under 69 in his second round and is tied for second with a two-round score of 6-under-par 136 (67-69). Morrison tallied four birdies (holes 1, 6, 11 and 17) against just a pair of bogeys during Tuesday's round.
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas carded a 4-under 67 on Tuesday and jumped 20 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for sixth with a 36-hole total of 4-under-par 138 (71-67). Maas holed out from the fairway for eagle on the par-four 4th hole and then added birdies on holes 12, 14 and 16 to climb to 5-under. He made bogey on the closing 18th hole to finish at 4-under in his second round.
- Sophomore Keaton Vo fired a 1-under 70 in his second round and climbed 18 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 25th with a two-round score of 1-over-par 143 (73-70). Vo was 2-over through his opening eight holes, but he registered three-straight birdies on holes 9, 10 and 11 to move to 1-under. After a bogey on hole 12, he made birdie on hole 15 and closed out his round with three consecutive pars to finish at 1-under on Tuesday.
