No. 1 Men’s Swim and Dive dominates No. 17 Texas A&M, remains undefeated in dual meets

The top-ranked Longhorns move to 8-0 in dual meets this season.
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 1 Texas Men's Swim and Dive program cruised to a 218.5-80.5 victory over No. 17 Texas A&M at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center Friday, boasting its dual meet record to 8-0 on the season.
The Longhorns started the day with a first and second-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The Texas 'A' team (Modglin, Germonprez, Kos, Guiliano) led the way with a time of 3:02.20, meeting the 'A' cut qualifying standard time for the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships and moving to No. 10 on the all-time best performance list. The Texas 'B' team (Peck, Scholtz, Branon, Hobson) was the runner-up with a time of 3:05.78.
Texas swept the 1000 freestyle with senior David Johnston leading the charge with a time of 8:40.74, the third-fastest time in UT history. Rex Maurer was the runner-up with a time of 8:41.23, the fifth-fastest time in UT history, to move to No. 3 on the all-time best performer list. Senior Jackson Huckabay finished the podium in third with a time of 8:54.38 to move to No. 10 on the all-time best performer list.
Texas continued to take the first two spots in both the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Seniors Luke Hobson (1:32.18) and Coby Carrozza (1:33.42) finished in first and second in the 200 free. Will Scholtz (52.46) and Nate Germonprez (52.62) checked in at first and second in the 100 breaststroke.
The Longhorns secured a full podium sweep in the 100 backstroke with Hubert Kos winning with a time of 44.87. Will Modglin finished as the runner-up with a time of 45.51 and Kyle Peck in third with a time of 47.28.
Texas then swept another podium in the 200 butterfly with Ryan Branon taking first (1:42.46), Cooper Lucas finishing in second (1:42.48), and Logan Walker tallying the third-place finish (1:44.41).
Senior Chirs Guiliano added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.19. Garrett Gould followed suit in third with a time of 19.47.
Guiliano came back to win the 100 freestyle with a time of 42.68. Hobson (42.68), Gould (42.86), and Taylor (43.57) finished behind him in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.
Texas secured the top two spots in both the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke. Maurer (1:40.79) and Peck (1:43.12) finished 1-2 in the backstroke and Scholtz (1:52.69) and Taivassalo (1:56.18) claimed first and second in the breaststroke.
Texas swept another podium in the 500 freestyle with Johnston grasping first (4:14.21), Carrozza carding a second-place finish (4:18.030) and Lucas coming in at third (4:19.49).
Kos added two more first-place finishes with a time of 45.34 in the 100 butterfly and 1:41.97 in the 200 individual medley. Branon (46.27) was the runner-up in the butterfly and Maurer (1:42.86) was the runner-up in the individual medley.
Texas concluded the day with a first-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:16.37 from the 'A' team (Guiliano, Peck, Modglin, Hobson). The Texas 'B' team (Gould, Taylor, Filipovic, Carrozza) then finished behind in third with a time of 1:18.09.
Nick Harris (379.35 ) and Jacob Jones (371.93) finished in first and second on the 1-meter. Luke Forester finished in second from the 3-meter with a score of 378.90, while Nick Harris posted a score of 372.45 to sit in fourth.
