Important news happening in and around Texas Athletics compiled by Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte

Longhorn Nation,
It's on to another week, and today I write to you on a truly important day as AMERICA CELEBRATES VETERANS DAY — a time to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our great country. We are profoundly grateful for the nation's service men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe and protecting our freedoms. It was an honor to recognize them and their families at our "Salute to Service Game" game against Vanderbilt two weeks ago. I'll always cherish the chance to say thank you, tip my hat, and acknowledge our nation's finest. Here's to a loud and proud Hook 'Em for the selfless service of our incredibly brave and dedicated service members. And Horns up to another great week!
Thank you for your service and sacrifice 🤘 pic.twitter.com/MxUDBeZPOP

After a well-earned and beneficial bye week, it's TIME TO KICKOFF ANOTHER GRIDIRON GAME WEEK. Fresh off last Tuesday's first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings (stay tuned for the week two rankings tonight at 6 p.m. CT/ESPN), Coach Sark and our back-in-the-top-10 Longhorns hit the road once again — this time to Athens for a big-time showdown with No. 5 Georgia. All eyes will be on this one, with the Saturday Night Football crew — Fowler, Herbie and Holly — on the call in the primetime 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff slot on ABC. Our Horns are road-tested and ready, as this marks our fifth road trip in the last six games. After a historic 42-day road stretch, we had ourselves a day in the win over No. 9 Vanderbilt to open November. Now it's ROAD ENERGY TIME! Let's bring it all week as Coach Sark and our squad gear up to take on the Dawgs. We'll see all of you making the trip to Georgia, and for those cheering from afar, we know there will be Horns Up around the world all week long. Let's Hook 'Em, y'all!
Back on the road 🤘

Here we go — BASKETBALL SEASON IS OFFICIALLY OFF AND RUNNING! Thanks to everyone that came out to tip off our home hoops season at Moody Center last week — y'all brought it like we know you will all season long! Coach Schaefer and No. 4 Women's Basketball earned a pair of home wins this past week — first an emphatic top-25 victory over No. 24 Richmond on Friday (85-56), then a strong showing in Monday's 100-38 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. On the men's side, Coach Miller and our Horns bounced back from a hard-fought battle with No. 6/5 Duke in Charlotte last Tuesday and rolled to 97-60 home-opening win over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon in Moody Center. Horns up to Coach Miller on his first win leading our Longhorns — and here's to many more to come! The women will be back at it in The Mood on Sunday against Texas Southern (4 p.m. CT/SEC Network+), while the men host FDU on Wednesday (7 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) and Kansas City on Saturday (Noon CT/SEC Network+). Come on out and cheer on your Horns — can't wait to see you at The Mood!

As we head into the STRETCH RUN OF THE REGULAR SEASON, Coach Elliott and No. 4 Volleyball got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory at Florida on Friday. It was a historic night for sensational setter Ella Swindle, who notched her 2,000th career assist with 31 against the Gators. And how about Torrey Stafford — the terrific hitter smashed 21 kills (her fifth 20-kill match of the season!) in the triumph. You can learn about our National Player of the Year candidate on the latest episode of Texas & Os. With a 19-2 record on the year, the Horns have one final conference road match at Auburn on Wednesday (6 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) before returning home for our regular season finale and Senior Day celebration vs. South Carolina on Sunday (1 p.m. CT/SEC Network+). What an awesome opportunity to raise those Horns for our four seniors — Emma Halter, Devin Kahahawai, Whitney Lauenstein & Kenna Miller — as we put a bow on the regular season and get ready to head to Savannah, Ga. for the SEC Tournament (Nov. 21-25). Can't wait to see you at The Greg on Sunday!

In addition to Basketball, Football, and Volleyball, we've got a FULL SLATE OF LONGHORNS COMPETING THIS WEEK. Swimming and Diving hosts the annual Texas Diving Invitational on Thursday through Saturday, Beach Volleyball welcomes LSU to the ATX on Friday and Saturday, Cross Country is off to the NCAA South Central Regionals to compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships on Friday, and Rowing heads to Dallas for some fall racing at SMU on Sunday.

Hey, and in closing, here's the story behind a little ditty to fire you up for another GREAT WEEK TO BE A LONGHORN!
Men's Basketball gives Coach Miller his first win at Texas
The start of Basketball came at the perfect time with Football on its bye week — and our LONGHORNS MADE SURE TO DELIVER AN ENTERTAINING SATURDAY ON THE FORTY! It was awesome to see a great crowd inside The Mood celebrating the first win of the Coach Miller era, and in dominant fashion! After a tough season-opening loss to No. 5 Duke last Tuesday in Charlotte, our guys returned home to the ATX, rolled up their sleeves, and got right back to work in the practice gym. Like Coach Miller has said all summer and preseason, this team will be a work-in-progress early on, but you could already see the growth and improvement in Saturday's 97-60 home opening victory over Lafayette. The Corral was rockin' well before tipoff, and Longhorn Nation showed up and showed out to give our guys that much-needed home court advantage. The pace, tempo and ball movement were en fuego all afternoon, as six players hit double figures in scoring and our Horns efficiently dished out 21 assists on 33 made field goals while committing just nine turnovers. The big guy in the middle from Lithuania, sophomore Matas Vokietaitis (I'm just calling him 'Big V'), posted his second collegiate double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds — and the best part is, he's just scratching the surface of his potential. Coach Miller and the squad continue their homestand this week with two more matchups — FDU on Wednesday (7 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) and Kansas City on Saturday (Noon CT/SEC Network+). We'll see you in The Mood!

Women's Basketball off to impressive 3-0 start!
Speaking of domination, Coach Schaefer and No. 4 Women's Basketball have been on a heater to open the season — and we really appreciate y'all coming out to cheer them on. In their first three games, the Longhorns have outscored their opponents by a COMBINED TOTAL OF 308-to-145. Wow! The ladies got last week started with an emphatic 85-56 victory over No. 24 Richmond on Friday night in Moody Center. The do-it-all Madison Booker led the team with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds while also posting SEVEN steals and four assists during Friday's win. Texas then turned the page quickly and had five players reach double figures in scoring while four additional players scored at least seven points during last night's 100-38 win against Louisiana. Kyle Oldacre had a team-high 19 points and added seven rebounds, and let's give a shout-out to Teya Sidberry for reaching the 1,000-career-point milestone. The Longhorns return to the court when they host Texas Southern in Moody Center on Sunday (4 p.m. CT/SEC Network+).
