Baseball debuts at No. 17 in NCBWA preseason poll

Longhorns are one of 11 SEC programs listed in the poll's top 30.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas baseball team received its fourth preseason ranking, slotting in at No. 17 in the National College Baseball Writers Association's initial poll.
Leading up to the 2025 campaign, the Longhorns were also tabbed seventh by Perfect Game, 14th by Baseball America and 19th by D1Baseball.
The Longhorns are one of 11 programs from the Southeastern Conference in the NCBWA's initial top 30, joining No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 Tennessee, No. 4 LSU, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 10 Florida, No. 13 Georgia, No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Mississippi State, No. 26 Kentucky and No. 30 Oklahoma.

Texas is set to begin its inaugural campaign under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.
Schlossnagle has posted a 946-455 (.675) record over 23 seasons as a collegiate skipper, which included an 18-year run at TCU, three seasons at Texas A&M and two years at UNLV.
A 2025 ABCA Hall of Fame inductee, Schlossnagle is one of two head coaches to reach six of the last 10 College World Series, alongside Florida's Kevin O'Sullivan.
The Longhorns bring back preseason All-Americans Max Belyeu and Jalin Flores. In 2024, Belyeu was named Big 12 Player of the Year, while Flores was named a consensus All-American.
Texas also returns 14 letterwinners from last year and add 23 newcomers, including 11 transfers.
The Longhorns open the season on Feb. 14 against Louisville in Arlington, Texas, as part of the Shriners Children's College Showdown. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Globe Life Field.
