No. 2 Men’s Golf in third after opening day at The Ford Collegiate

Bennett and Morrison are tied for ninth individually at even-par through 36 holes, while the Longhorns are just five strokes off the team lead.
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — The No. 2 Texas Men's Golf team carded a two-round total of 1-over par 561 (281-280) on Monday to rest in third place just five strokes off the lead after the opening day of the The Ford Collegiate at the Ford Field and River Club. Freshman Daniel Bennett (72-68) and junior Tommy Morrison (67-73) both fired 36-hole scores of even-par 140 and are tied for ninth in the individual standings entering Tuesday's final round.
In Monday's morning round, Texas counted scores from Morrison (3-under 67), junior Christiaan Maas (1-over 71), sophomore Jack Gilbert (1-over 71) and Bennett (2-over 72) to post a team round of 1-over 281. During Monday afternoon's second round, the Longhorns counted scores from Bennett (2-under 68), junior Luke Potter (1-under 69), Maas (even-par 70) and Morrison (3-over 73) to card an even-par 280.
No. 1 Auburn holds a three-stroke lead in the team standings at 4-under 556 (276-280), while No. 7 LSU is second at 1-under 559 (276-283). The Longhorns are five strokes off the lead in third at 1-over 561 (281-280), and No. 20 South Carolina is fourth at 4-over 564 (288-276). The 12-team field features three squads in the top 10 and five in the top 25 of the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd poll (April 9).
Auburn's Jackson Koivun (69-67) and Frankie Harris of South Carolina (72-64) share the individual lead after the first 36 holes at 4-under 136. LSU's Algot Kleen is in third place at 3-under 137 (71-66).
The Ford Collegiate is set to conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday, April 15. Texas will be paired with Auburn and LSU in Tuesday's final round, and tee times will begin at 7:48 a.m. Central (8:48 a.m. Eastern) from the 1st tee.
The Lineup
- Freshman Daniel Bennett fired a 36-hole total of even-par 140 (72-68) on Monday and is tied for ninth in the individual standings. During his afternoon round, Bennett posted four birdies (holes 3, 6, 7 and 16) against a pair of bogeys to finish at 2-under 68.
- Junior Tommy Morrison carded a two-round score of even-par 140 (67-73) on Monday and is tied for ninth. In his morning round, he was 2-over through his opening four holes after a double bogey on hole 2. Morrison rallied to make birdies on holes 5, 6, 11, 12 and 16 to close out his 3-under 67.
- Junior Christiaan Maas posted a 36-hole total of 1-over 141 (71-70) on Monday and is tied for 16th. During his afternoon round, Maas recorded three birdies (holes 3, 9 and 16) against three bogeys to register an even-par 70.
- Junior Luke Potter recorded a two-round score of 3-over 143 (74-69) on Monday and is tied for 24th. In his afternoon round, Potter posted five birdies (holes 3, 5, 6, 10 and 16) against four bogeys to record a 1-under 69.
- Sophomore Jack Gilbert carded a 36-hole total of 7-over 147 (71-76) on Monday and is tied for 42nd. He registered a pair of birdies (holes 3 and 16) against three bogeys during his 1-over 71 in the morning round.
