Freshman Daniel Bennett posted his fourth top-3 individual finish of the season with his tie for third at The Ford Collegiate.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas Men's Golf freshman Daniel Bennett has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. This marks Bennett's first career weekly league honor and he is the third Longhorn to earn a conference weekly accolade this year. Tommy Morrison previously claimed Men's Golfer of the Week recognition on Feb. 12, and Christiaan Maas was tabbed Men's Co-Golfer of the Week on Mar. 19.
Bennett tied for third in the individual standings at The Ford Collegiate (April 14-15), as he carded a 54-hole total of 3-under 207 (72-68-67). He led the No. 3 Longhorns to the team title at The Ford Collegiate in a 12-team field that also included No. 1 Auburn and No. 7 LSU.
Bennett has now placed in the top-16 in each of his first eight stroke-play appearances this season, including four top-3 performances and five top-10 finishes. Eighteen of his 24 rounds have been par or better this year, including 13 rounds in the 60s. He is No. 69 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (April 16) and No. 3 in the latest NCAA individual rankings by Scoreboard (April 16).
Texas earned its third-consecutive team championship and fifth overall team title of the season. In seven events this spring, the Longhorns have recorded five team victories, a runner-up finish and a third-place showing. UT has claimed team titles this year at the Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 27-29), The Hayt (Mar. 8-10), the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 24-25) and The Ford Collegiate (April 14-15) and shared the team championship at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 5-6).
Texas is back on the course when it competes in the 2025 SEC Championship on April 23-27 (Wednesday-Sunday) at Saint Simons Island, Ga.
